Key phrase

If you scroll down your webpage in the back end of your website you will come across the Yoast SEO options which you can see in the above image. This is where you will enter unique bits of information to optimise your webpage for search engines. We will start with the key phrase, in the section that I have highlighted orange you want to enter a key phrase or a keyword that is unique to that webpage, this tells the search engine what the webpage is all about so the search engine can match your webpage to relevant searches. The plugin then reviews the content on the page based on the phrase or keyword that you entered to see that they match up, the plugin then tells you where you can improve your webpage in the “Content Analysis” section underneath the “Focus Keyword” entry box that you used before. The aim here is to try and get as many green lights as you can by following the instructions that it is giving you.

Meta Title & Description

The “Meta Title” and “Meta Description” of a website is the title and description of a webpage that shows up in search engine results. You can see how your webpage will look in search engine results in the “Snippet Editor” section which you can see in the screenshot above. To edit the Meta Title and Description start by clicking on the “Edit snippet” button which is highlighted in the screenshot above.

When you click the button, options will drop down like the above screenshot. Here you can edit your title and description to how you want it. Obviously you want to write a title and description that has relevance to your webpage, you can do this by entering your desired title and description in the highlighted fields in the above screenshot. Once you’ve entered your desired title and description you can see how it will look in the “Snippet preview” at the top. When you are satisfied remember to publish/update your webpage for the changes to be saved!

Thats everything to it

That wasn’t too complicated was it? Doing these simple steps that take just a few minutes have a huge positive effect on SEO as your making it easy for search engines to see exactly what your webpage is all about and therefore can match you up to search engine user results and get more people visiting your site!
